Emily Beaudoin is a mountain painter, illustrator, and muralist based in Canmore, Alberta. The mountains have always been her muses, and she hikes, skis, bikes, and paddles into the backcountry to paint what she sees. Painting peaks, flora, and fauna is how she expresses the love and respect she has for these wild places, and she doesn’t think she’ll ever tire of it or stop learning from her time outside.
Her paintings come to life in two different ways. Some days, she’s perched on a boulder beside a glacial lake with a backpack full of art supplies, racing to capture the changing light. Other times, she’s in the studio working from field sketches, photos, and memory, trying to get the colour of alpenglow just right. Her outdoor work is loose and instinctive, while her studio process is careful and obsessive, and she loves both for the different feelings they bring.
