Claire Loon Baldwin is a writer, designer, and natural science illustrator based in Maine, specializing in watercolor botanicals and biodiverse landscapes. Her art is informed by her background working in state and national parks across the US.

In 2018, Claire created Grand Canyon National Park's centennial poster series, and since then, she's continued to create environmentally-centered art with prominent clients including DK Publishing and Penguin Random House, Down East Magazine, and the Boston Globe. She also works with environmental nonprofits and sustainably-minded companies, and teaches workshops that weave together art and ecology.

This year, Claire journeyed to northeastern Greenland to create a first-hand illustrated account of the intrepid scientists living and working at Zackenberg Research Station. In this roadless wilderness, polar bears, Arctic wolves, and musk oxen roam wild beneath the midnight sun. Here, at the ends of the earth, a small, dedicated team of scientists tracks more than 2,000 climate variables to deepen our understanding of the planet’s changing climate and its future. Claire is developing an illustrated children’s book that offers young readers a glimpse into the lives of the scientists working on the front lines of climate research in one of the most remote wildernesses in the world.
