About the Artists
Meet the artists that make these bags gorgeous.
Rachel Pohl
Rachel Pohl's artwork explores themes of presence and peace. From wildflowers tucked in mountain cirques and summer nights beneath the stars, to alpenglow on snowy peaks and miraculous wildlife moments, her work will spark magic and change the way you see the world.
Rachel loves telling stories through her paintings, writing, and videos. Rachel's mission is to encourage others to live colorfully, creatively, and with unbridled curiosity.
Gretchen Leggitt
Northwest artist Gretchen Leggitt's murals, fine art and products depict her unique perspectives of the natural world, encapsulating the energetic movement of the elements and the nuanced geometry of topography.
Her colorful murals can be found across the country, including the largest in the state of Washington, spanning over 22,000 square feet.
Renan Ozturk
Renan Ozturk is an expedition climber, landscape artist and filmmaker. He lives to tell stories about our connection to the natural world, often set within the most challenging environments on Earth.
Renan is constantly searching for projects that move him -- films that have a strong visual identity matched with some deeply compelling human element.
How it Works
When you buy a Canvas bag, a portion of the sale goes directly back to the artist who painted/illustrated/imagined your print to support them on their own adventure.
Let customers speak for us
from 241 reviewsI absolutely love my Phanny! It travels everywhere with me. Nicely finished, sturdy and stylish. Everyone (I live in Europe) asks me where I got it. Thanks and greetings to Tosh!!
We got a duffle and a backpack and lived them on a recent trip to the Adirondacks. Durable, beautiful, and simple!
Love the bum pack. Design and colours are beautiful. Would have liked a shoulder strap thrown in so the customer can decide to wear it either as a bum pack or a shoulder bag.
We love all of our Free Range bags. We have two totes, two duffels, two phannies, and a backpack. The uniqueness of each one (they are downright gorgeous) and the functionality of them make them the perfect option for heading to the office or going on a trip. I would recommend to anyone that I talk to. Thanks Free Range for adding so much style to my days!
So handy and lovely.
Beautiful, my mother loves it!
Beautiful and very useful. I love this bag!
I get so many compliments and questions about my tote! It has a hard life here in Alaska but has held up to all I have thrown at it and have bought several more for gifts for hard working gals!

Trick question! It's ALL FOUR! I've had my duffel for 2 months and use it nearly every day. Why? Because you never know what adventures the day will bring, it's THAT versatile. My duffel has thus far been used thusly: always ready for climbing gym, cold plunging, and a trail run; day of swapping between resort skiing, in-bounds ski touring, and working from the ski lodge; 5-day work + fun trip (office, running + bike stuff all fit!); 4-day trip to gravel bike camp where it also served as my day bag; and it seriously is always ready to go... I drive around town with my FRE Phanny, FRE Tote, and FRE Duffel and have to giggle at myself for having so much FUN in one place :)
This duffel is simply designed, beautiful and functional. Construction and quality is impeccable. Carry it with the shoulder strap, handles or sleek conversion to a backpack. Two handy end pockets are generously sized though I use to store my small essentials (wallet, hair thingy, chapstick, snacks). Two inner side pockets are great to separate the wet or sweaty things from the things I have yet to get wet or sweaty that day.
Love it. Wish I could buy more than one but I will just have to buy them as gifts for people I love instead :)
Love the material. Well made.
I am a 65 year old avid Colorado hiker and I love this pack. I grew up with the Fanny pack back in the late 80s. After 30 yrs. Never thought I would buy another one%21 But along comes Free Range gear. I use this pack as my everyday purse and on short hikes. It is amazing how much this pack holds. Best part it’s hands free%2C and as a great old broad%2C I never lose my purse%21 PS I also get ton of compliments on the mountain design from fellow Colorado ladies.
Ample room, generous adjustable strap, amazing design and beautiful art. What more could you want from a phanny pack? Nothing. It's perfect and I use it as my daily run around bag, fits all the things without feeling cumbersome or bulky. Be prepared for people to stop you on the street asking you were you got it.
A great tote bag for my Valentines 💘 with art from one of my (our) favorite local artist Sheila Dunn… perfecto!
We used this as an fundraising incentive at our latest fundraiser event on the mountain and it was a hit!

The Backstory
It started with a restless creative energy inside of our college-dropout founder and a need for the kind of freedom that allows you to explore your own inner child. Both desires were satisfied in the form of a backpack: a simple tool that supports soul-freeing adventure in the mountains and life. The result is a line of bags that are inspired by the Oregon Cascades and designed in the high desert below. Now please fill your pack and join us on the journey - the Free Range is calling.
